INNOCENT UTOPIA

Innocent Utopia explores historical dress with a fantastical twist. This piece is inspired by the Hennin, worn by noble women in the Late Middle Ages, and is decorated with a hand-embroidered design, created using Goldwork and Tambour techniques.

Reconnecting with a childlike fantasy is the impetus for Millie's work, which is revealed through playful themes, and built upon through detailed embroideries. Creating a dreamlike quality is important as so much of the process for Millie comes from her imagination, whether it be the concept or the design. Inspiration from art and nature often establishes an idea, but it is amplified by a passion for storytelling.

This piece was produced with characters in mind like curious damsels who wish to explore the woodlands around them or whimsical fairy princesses with status and grace. As much as the style of headdress is based on history, it is a childhood fascination with stories and characters with such costumes that led Millie to create this article.
